  • Beneteau launch largest Monte Carlo yet, the Monte Carlo 47
Beneteau launch largest Monte Carlo yet, the 47, but without the Air-Step Hull. With no unique Air Step, Beneteau have tried to innovate by the fitting of Volvo IPS drives, 2 x 435 HP Volvo D6 IPS 600 for a price of £360,000 Pounds or €445,000 Euros. The new model will be launched at the Paris Boat Show at 19.30 on Friday 5th December, but it should also be at Excel Boat Show at Londons Docklands in January 2009. The Monte Carlo 47 will be available in either a 2- or 3-cabin version (unique for a 47-footer of this category). The enormous cockpit can accommodate the entire crew for those periods of relaxation. The opening roof and the sun awning extension are electric, and the large garage for the tender means its engine can be left in position. The large practical bathing platform gives safe access to the sea. Forward, a king-size (2m x 1.9m) sunbathing platform is fitted with new coverings.

  • Jeanneau launch new Sun Odyssey 44i
The new Sun Odyssey 44i designed by Philippe Briand combines elegance and flexibility. The main flexibility feature allows the front berth to become two seperate berths or one larger area simply by the inclusion of a small room divider. In addition the 2 double berths in the 4 cabin version, the Sun Odyssey 44i also benefits from an additional berth option that provide bunk beds to the forward cabins as well. The removable divider can be stored underneath the berth, which give maximum flexibility to the 4 cabin version. Click on the book icon to see more images. One of the other features that we like is that the performance version tries to keep the cockpit clear by keeping the mainsheet traveller on the cockpit roof. Some would argue that this is then not a true performance boat, but I take the opinion that for 95% os it's usage won't be flat out regatta racing, and having a clutter free and relaxed cockpit area increases the whole sailing experience. Winches and deck gear and hardware are from Harken however you still have the twin helm positions that help to give that performance feel.

  • Merry Fisher 815 from Jeanneau new for 2009
The slightly cheesy named Merry Fisher 815 from Jeanneau is part of the new power line up from Jeanneau for 2009. The new line-up from Jeanneau includes 2 Merry Fisher models, the 815 and the 725 Legende plus 3 Cap Camarat Models, the 635 WA, the 555 and the Style "Liveability" has been the emphasis for the Merry Fisher redsign. The all-new look for 815 from Jeanneau delivers a stable, high-performance hull, and surprising comfort onboard. In addition, the Merry Fisher 815 is a truly adaptable, multi-use powercruiser. This new model features equipment that is equally well adapted to cruising and fishing. For cruising, the new Merry Fisher 815 offers two distinct living spaces (a large saloon and a forward cabin) in a spacious and well balanced interior layout. The large volume of space on the interior can accommodate a family of four or two couples, featuring a generous forward cabin with a double berth and a saloon that converts into a second double berth (with bench seating at the helm), for extra comfort when on those extended cruises.

  • Keen sandals and Henri Lloyd Fast Dri
For those that baulk at wearing sandals for fear of stubbed toes or looking a shade too "Über Geek", the solution is here, thanks to Keen. The 2008 range of ‘waterfront’ shoes from Keen, look great and have their trademark rubber toe protection. This is an excellent dock side or boat shoe available in a six different colours. The sandal holds your foot like a training shoe, and gives excellent grip in wet dockside, deck or muddy bank conditions. The trade mark toe protection allows you the confidence to tackle any terrain without fear of a stubbed toe. Yes! Now your can have the freedom of a sandal without living in fear of stubbing your toe leaving you to relax and enjoy your time on the water. Anyone who has spent any time on any boat will I'm sure appreciate this. Keen shoes are renowned for their comfort, and the Newport H2 is a shoe you can easily wear all day. Overall this is an excellent range and brand. They are versatile and rugged enough to allow you to walk, sail, swim, hike, climb and run. Few of their competitors can make such claims. After having worn these sandals for the past 6 weeks, I'm making these as my preferred shoe of choice when in and around the water.

Line 7, whose clothing has won more America’s Cups than any other brand and has protected top-class sailors at events around the world for over 40 years, has introduced the Inshore range as a ‘crossover’ choice, equally at home on land or at sea. The Inshore is the answer for sailors who require a high level of performance at sea but also want something to wear ashore that is stylish. The chic panel layout and tonal hood achieves this combination, yet in essence the clothing gives top performance and protection in the elements at sea. The all-new Hallberg-Rassy 372 builds on the great success of the Hallberg-Rassy 342, of which over 220 are sold in less than three years. The aft cockpit HR 372 is in every aspect an all-new Frers design and is not based on the centre cockpit Hallberg-Rassy 37 and does not replace the HR 37. Compared to the Hallberg-Rassy 37, the 372 is only a few centimetres longer, is 5 cm wider and has a fuller transom. The canoe body is slightly shallower and the keel slightly deeper and lighter. The aft and mid sections of the hull are flatter and the bow section sharper.
